Good policy starts with good evidence. We helped Camden Council better understand cumulative impact, giving decision-makers the confidence to take a fresh approach to licensing across the borough.
Six Till Six and MAKE Associates were commissioned by Camden Council to undertake a comprehensive assessment of cumulative impact across the borough’s licensed areas. The project sought to understand the relationship between licensed premises, public safety, crime and disorder, environmental impacts and the wider evening and night time economy. This project was funded through the Greater London Authority’s Business Friendly Licensing Fund.
Our work combined detailed data analysis, stakeholder interviews and overnight audits to provide a robust evidence base for decision-making. We engaged with responsible authorities, businesses, residents and local partners to understand both the challenges and opportunities associated with areas experiencing high concentrations of licensed premises.
The assessment provided Camden Council with clear, evidence-led recommendations to inform its cumulative impact policies and support a balanced approach to managing growth, protecting communities and fostering a vibrant evening and night time economy. The council subsequently made the decision to remove their Special Policy Areas (Cumulative Impact Areas).
