Using evidence to shape better licensing decisions

Assessing the cumulative impact of licensed premises across Wandsworth to provide a robust evidence base for future licensing policy and support a safe and successful evening and night time economy.

Six Till Six and MAKE Associates were commissioned by Wandsworth Council to undertake a borough-wide cumulative impact assessment, providing an independent evidence base to support the review of licensing policies and cumulative impact controls.

Through detailed analysis of crime, nuisance, health and licensing data, alongside stakeholder interviews and overnight audits, we assessed how licensed premises interact with the surrounding environment and local communities. The project provided a comprehensive understanding of both the benefits and challenges associated with concentrations of licensed activity across the borough.

The assessment helped inform future licensing policy, ensuring decisions are based on robust evidence while supporting a safe, welcoming and economically successful evening and night time economy.
